Importance of Books & wonderful Books recommendation for us by Mr.Kamal Haasan during Big Boss 4 Tamil show

Big Thanks to Mr. Kamal Haasan for sharing the importance of reading book and great choice of books to read for us during the popular Tamil show Big Boss 4. While introducing Big Boss 4 contestant and news Reader Ms. Anitha Sampath, Mr. Kamal Haasan mentioned his desire to mention/recommend to viewers the books he loved or admired, in every weekend Episodes of Big Boss 4. He mentioned that those books are brought up him to this level and by recommending those; he felt like gifting those to all the viewers.

He mentioned, “This generation people are seeing many visionary items, but they have to read as well. Then only they will understand the language. “

Being a book lover, I loved and cherished the way Mr.Kamal Haasan shared during Big Boss 4 episodes. He fondly shares about the memory he shared with the Writers too. Even though I can’t bring up all his expression and words into this post, I tried to share with you all about the books recommended by him and also what lovely memories he shared about those book and their Authors/Translators. Please excuse me if I have written anything wrong/differently in this post. It was completely written by my understanding.  I also added the Images of the book cover and if possible the URLs to read the book online. Hope itself useful for some of the people at least <3

 2nd weekend Episode

 (one sample book cover)

Book Name: Venmurasu/ வெண்முரசு

Writer: B. Jeyamohan

Mr. Kamal Haasan statement about Writer and the book:

One of my respectful writers, you would have guessed by now. He has written one small story per day in this Covid times. Even the greatest writers who read that, would think, why I didn’t think of such thing to write.

Once when he said he is going to write a book, we all easily wished and sent. But he started to write it in 2014 and completed last year (2019 probably). It is a big & lengthy story. To say politely, we can say this is the World’s Biggest book, with 25000 pages. Writer Bernard Shaw has written and published 15000 pages in his lifetime. Mr.Jeyamohan has written 25000 pages for one novel. This book is a recap of Mahabharatham. Don't think why I am praising Mahabharatham now (humorous).  Mahabharatham is not only about God & magical story. It’s about our Ancestors history and our cultures details as well. About Mahabharatham what are all the details Mr.Jeyamohan knew, he beautifully put his thoughts and senses and made as a wonderful book. His Gratefulness, after writing it He kept it in Internet Online for everyone to read it. So it’s available in internet, you can go ahead and read it. Also it’s available as a printed book, as 25 big books since it has 25000 pages isn’t it!! You can get it if you wanted to pay respect to him. We can’t compare him like he is writing like that person or this person; he has taken himself above all, when coming to this Mahabharatham recap. You all can think it’s just an existing book right!! But to tell an Example, in the scene Dushshasana removed Draupathi dress, Jeyamohan has removed all magic from original story and add his thoughts into it and written like, “during this illness happening for Draupathi in the palace, maybe the 100 wives of Kaurava’s might get angry on the Action of Dushshasana and other Kaurava’s and would have got angry on them and intend to save Draupathi and shared their dress to her”. This book will be reached to all who believes in god or not. Thus Mr.Jeyamohan has become like descendent of Vyasa, who has first written Mahabharatham.

I am so happy that I am his friend and I could share about his book from my mouth. And that’s my Duty as well J Thank you.

3rd weekend Episode

Book Name: Puyalile oru Thoni (புயலிலே ஒரு தோணி)

An important novel in Tamil. Tragedy is, many know about his fame only after his death. Hereafter it should not happen. So we all should read that book. He is equal to the English statement ‘Hemingway’. I am sure everyone who read this book will follow the book and writing. This way I am giving my regards to the writer and suggesting the book to all of you. Thank you J

4th weekend Episode

Book Name: Azhagar kovil

Writer’s Name: Mr. Tho. Paramasivam

Words from Mr.Kamal Haasan about the books: “Instead of telling the books that I recommend, I can say the books I admire.

The book I am going to tell now is written for his Doctorate Thesis, an interesting book. ‘Azhagar kovil’ book by Mr. Tho. Paramasivam. Must read book, it will bring much of Surprise. I came to knew him very late only. He is a rationalist. From movie ‘Dashavatharam’, dialogue ‘Kadavul ila nu yaaru sonna, iruntha nala irukum nu than sonen’, was casually said by him in one conversation. He casually spreads such pearls (words, dialogues). That kind of person connected lots of Pearls and made this book ‘Azhagar kovil’. People will wonder is there such a person. Because a rationalist has written a book about devotees and given correct details about them. He has all needs and goodness of a rationalist. For the people who are wondering of such people, I am very much happy to introduce him here, now.”

Also Mr. Tho. Paramasivam has came to the Big boss show via video call and presented.

Mr. Kamal Haasan mentioned the writer as a Lion. He added that this is not about recommending the book; it’s like an Appreciation Ceremony for the writer and book. J

Mr.Osho has praised this book to very big heights and mentioned as this is the best book of all he has read. He also mentioned, one should read this book with their heart. Mr.Puviyarasu has also translated many books of Mr.Osho also. Mr. Puviyarasu was adamant enough to bring the story of movie ‘Hey Ram’ in the form of a book. He was the reason, which many people trusted to have ‘Naatu Pura Kadhai/Padal’ in school syllabus. We should praise that youngster; he is just starting his 99th year of his life. J

He gave a wonderful gift to all of us via his books (I feel as his birthday gift to me). Recently I happened to see a handwritten copy of his recent story. 8th weekend Episode

Book Name: Esther (collection of small stories) எஸ்தர்: சிறுகதை

Writer’s Name: Vanna Nilavan

Words from Mr.Kamal Haasan about the books: “Esther is a collection of small stories Written by Mr.Vanna Nilavan. If you read his book you will come to know, about how big writer I am talking about. I could have recommended some other book of his, but I have heard from some other writers that if they have written a book like Esther than that is big height of our life. Such a book it is!! When thinking about how I met him first, I remember that, my Guru Mr.Ananthu has taken him to our home with a big introduction. He introduced the writer as very good/big writer. But the writer seems to be very simple human.  One other important thing is, he has also written dialogues for ‘Aval Appadi  Than’ movie. It’s an awesome joint try by us. Me, Mr.Vanna Nilavan, Mr.Ananthu all has written the dialogues for the film. Such thing would happen very rare. I have even done cinematography for that movie. I proudly say that he has written dialogues for that movie. But for him, we could say many novels for his like Kambanadhi, Kadal Purathil etc.. are there. If you read this Esther book, then you will read his other books too. My best wishes for that. Happy Reading!! J

9th weekend Episode

Book Name: Thodu Vanam Thedi

Writer’s Name: Mr.A.Thillai Rajan, Mr.G.Arun Kumar, Mr. Saji Mathew

Words from Mr.Kamal Haasan about the books:   “So far I have said few books like literature, Entertainment, Poetry, Small stories etc. All those would have leaded you to your creativity. But this book is going to help you all strengthen your every day proof of life. This Thodu Vanam Thedi book explains how Entrepreneurs and especially Women Entrepreneurs can do it very well, in a very simple language. Also it’s Mainly for Small business Entrepreneurs. I tell this because, for our Indian Economy GDP, I believe there is a big part played by Women and Small business Entrepreneurs. It will help to strengthen the country’s economy. I believe, Rather many Billion Dollar companies, I trust Lakhs of Small Business companies doing well will help in Economy. This book helps for that purpose, and that’s why I wanted to suggest this book. Thanks to the book as well.”

On his personal & political note he added, “I feel home makers role are also very important in economy and they also wanted to be paid for that. Some people made fun of this thought as well, saying what to pay for Wife and Mothers. I felt it should happen for them, based on the work they do at home. Take our home for example; my mom is the ENT specialist for our home. She will help during illness, cook and serve us during hunger. Some educated mother will be tuition teacher for the kids, drop and pick the children from school. For all this if we calculate payment for each of this, it will sum up to more amount. For example, if we calculate the amount for Laundry itself, it will come up to some lump of amount. I remember a poem now, ‘For poor there is not day or time, for Women there is no weekends’. It’s not about male domination, but even though the women is not going for work and take care of home, as a respect, I feel Women has to be paid for their contribution to the family and country’s economy. It has to be done at least by government, if not within the home. It can be implemented as well. “

10th weekend Episode

Book Name: Naalai Matrumoru Naale/நாளை மற்றுமொரு நாளே

Writer Name: G.Nagarajan

Words from Mr.Kamal Haasan about the books:  “Not like other books I suggested. In this book, there will be some sadness. We all should know such part of the life also but it till be good too. Like a phrase in English ‘grey shades of life’, wonderfully writer written in the book. He is a Teacher turned to a writer, Mr.G.Nagarajan. Book name ‘Naalai Matrumoru Naale’. It has sadness in the title itself. I used to tell ‘Naalai Namathe’ in a positive note, but this book title is opposite, like ‘Tomorrow is just another day’. It will take us to sadness by saying Tomorrow is going to be another copy of today.  It will be good if we heard it as a story, because when reading it I got tears in eyes and focused out from letters.  Such an impactful novel it is. In middle of many fun elements, some life’s sadness will affect us more, wonderful novel it is. Please read and enjoy it. “

Also Mr.Kamal Haasan added, “There are lots of things I wanted to share, but I feel there is not enough time for me to tell you guys. Only few weeks are there to go for the final episode, so I feel like suggesting 4 books per week. Because, I like the response you all gave for the thing I am doing. I feel very happy like I have written all those books myself. Hope you have that happiness when reading it. Thanks !!”

11th weekend Episode

Book Names: J.J. Sila Kuripugal written by Mr. Sundara Ramasami

                          Ninaivin Nadhiyil written by Mr.Jeyamohan

Words from Mr.Kamal Haasan about the books: “Today’s book is Late Sundara Ramasami’s ‘J.J. Sila Kuripugal’. I didn’t get a chance only to read his book, but also to meet him. Thanks for Mr.Gyana Koothan, for helping me to meet Mr.Sundara Ramasami and also made both of us to have a conversation. Mr.Gyana Koothan wanted both of us to meet & have conversation and he just wanted to see & listen to our talks. That day was very sweet memories for me, to converse with Mr. Sundara Ramasamy. Of course it would be same for whom (Mr.JeyaMohan) was thinking Mr.Sundara Ramasami as a beloved Guru. When Mr.Jeyamohan heard that Mr.Sundara Ramasami has died in US, before his body arrives in India for his last rights, Mr.JeyaMohan has written one whole book in 2-3 days. It comes to my thought as well when I talk about Mr.Sundara Ramasami. Book name is ‘Ninaivin Nadhiyil’. It was written in very short time. In short time, he has written it all with less time and also proof read and made ready for publishing. I think that he did as paying respect to Mr. Sundara Ramasami. Today I wanted to recommend ‘J.J. Sila Kuripugal’. But I also remembered ‘Ninaivin Nadhiyil’, and so I suggest that too. “

“Now a day’s Wherever I go, people are showing me their cupboards with the books I recommend in the past episodes. Seeing that I feel very happy and I feel I am doing a good job.”

It is a Story about Cinema industry. When reading I felt I was there in all the places mentioned in that story, as an Editor character, details about Junior Artists in Cinema etc.

After reading it I became huge fan of the writer and I wanted to go and visit him with help of Mr. Ananthu. His home was in Mambalam, Mannareddy street I think, near to Krishnaveni Theatre. I thought he would be with big Physique. But he was different. He will speak very silently but tell funny jokes and laugh with Hands on mouth. He has written many books. Writer Name: Mr.Perumal Murugan

Words from Mr.Kamal Haasan about the book: “Mr.Perumal Murugan has written many books about backward caste people, but this book has more important story.  It’s about oppressed race during British ruling time. Wonder is that those people were oppressed to an extent that they are not even aware of their ruler name, as an example. This book describes such events from that time. It happened during the British times, and now a day’s also it is happening to a level. I request you to read and suggest for others as well. Thanks!!”

 14th weekend Episode

The Person, who has drawn pictures for this book, had Colour blindness during his higher secondary studies and lost his eye sight also.

Both these people came together and worked together for this book ‘Nirangalin Mozhi’. This is my suggestion for this week. It is written by Mr.Theni Seerudaiyan, pictures by Mr.Manohar Devadas. Please admire and enjoy this. My wishes for both of them J

 15th weekend – Finale Episode

Book Name: Vaasipathu Eppadi?

Writer Name: Mr. Selventhiran

Words from Mr. Kamal Haasan:

“Just like hosting the Big boss show, this part is also my favorite. I love when others react to my books suggestion while I go out to meet people.

The reason I started to read book is, I am a High School dropout. I didn’t even complete High school. When hearing this people will say, you didn’t even read this? Hearing those I will feel very bad. I will be hearing along list to read. I will be wondered, when I am going to finish all these. Apart from school we have to read all these!! In my home, everyone is fond of book reading, they used t share and recommend books also. My friends too! My friends will take me to book shops and get me some to read.

My friend late Mr. Gnanakootham used to call me and tell, you have Book exhibition in front of your house itself, why are you not getting anything! And he used to suggest books like suggesting tasteful fruits. I still cherish those memories. <3. Like those moments, I want you all to enjoy, that’s why I wanted to talk about books in here. Writers of all these books are not to be put in Store room; they need to keep in Book shelves. I am very happy to make it happen. If not me, someone else would have done also.

I have suggested 14 book so far I think. Not all of them are available in book format, they are digitally available. Soon they will come in printed version. My request to book Publishers, to take the goodness of books and reading, to next generation we need to have it available in digital form too. If so, that will support Printed book version too.

My suggestion for this week is, ‘Vaasipathu Eppadi?’ written by Mr. Selventhiran. This is very important book. Many people will say that they used to read before, not it’s gone. This book has such that explanation to bring it back. This generation kids are asking, why they should read books, if any doubt I have I will Google it. If not reading, vocabularies will be reduced. So we will be running out of vocabularies to speak in anytime. This book explains about why we need to read, how to overcome the distractions while reading, etc.

So read this book, and bring your reading habit again. Also, reading is a different world. It will create your own imaginary world of your characters. Reading is wider than Cinema world. Cinema will give you a fixed Image in your mind. But reading will give you your own image of each characters and that’s your visionary world. You, Your book and your world!! You should not leave that habit.

In Developed habits, even after all development, many Book shops will be there, we don’t have to purchase any book, it have all spaces to read with table chair, we can read how much ever we want and keep the book in bookshelf and return back. That won’t spoil their business, instead will encourage reading! We will not know if its book shop or Library, it’s a wonderful confusion!! <3

This book is a wonderful Catalyst, to increase the reading habit. “

With this the page is getting over. I would like to end this page with a quote 'Yaam Petra Inbam Peruga Ivvaiyagam', Which is the reason I wanted to share this page about books. Because Books are Divine and Knowledgeable !!

I wish you all great reading ! :) Read more and share more. :)
